Joe Black, Founding Partner Bio

Joe leads a consulting partnership that works with senior management at the intersection of business strategy and talent discovery. Unlike other strategy firms, Joe uses the player development systems of championship sports teams to enable business leaders to create a scout centric organization — one that results in better strategy execution, fewer missed opportunities and more wins.

He is at work on a book for all those who craft and carry out strategy — to talk talent when they talk strategy. The book is based on over 20 years of research into the player development systems of championship sports teams.

Joe’s corporate and consulting career over thirty years in startups to large, global companies leading design and development of talent management, succession planning, leadership development, and business process improvement initiatives. Clients include Nike, Motorola, Merrill Lynch, Wells Fargo and Applied Materials. Previously, he held senior HR and OD executive management positions with American Airlines, GN ReSound Group, The Cooper Companies, Eaton Corporation and GenCorp.

Joe is an Adjunct Professor for The College of Continuing Education and The College of Business Administration at California State University Sacramento. His academic background includes doctoral studies in Psychology and Education from the Pepperdine University, a Masters of Science in Organization Development degree from Pepperdine University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Parsons College.

Professionally, Joe is active with the Strategic Management Society, Organizational Development Network, and the Gestalt International Study Center. Joe has been a life long competitive endurance athlete, hiker, and benefit bicycle tour leader.
