Scout Training Camps

The purpose of the camp is for your managers to learn the fundamentals of scouting so you can build a ScoutCentricTM organization.  They learn scouting skills used by professional and collegiate sports scouts to talk, see and imagine player potential. It’s a healthy and productive alternative to traditional evaluation techniques such as tests, interviews and psychological profiles.  Your managers become the best instrument of evaluation to make smart picks, resulting in better alignment of talent with strategy to win.

Base Camp – Golf

A two day experience that will change how your leaders see the relationship between strategy and talent –

The first day we go through a progression of chalktalk and practice drills designed to teach participants the fundamentals of scouting.  That evening, participants break into teams and work through a scouting situation.

The final day, teams meet at the pro shop for a round of golf.  This is not your typical round.  Teams of three are pared with a different “prospect” on each of the holes on the front nine. Their job is to scout and score the prospect. At the turn, scouting reports are collected.  While the participants finish the back nine, the camp facilitators summarize and analyze the data, ready for a talking talent session in the club house when the teams finish the round.  There, team participants process the product of the days learnings, get a taste for fighting and fussing over talent and leave with an action to complete scouting reports on their direct reports.

Learning to become a better scout through a round of golf builds strategy capabilities – it builds a ScoutCentricTM organization. Capturing insights in a natural setting translates to the bottom line.

Fly Fishing Camps

The two day camp is a learning experience unlike any you have ever experienced.

Participants work one-on-one with an expert fly-fishing guide – in the water. Our team will focus the experience both on the bank and in the classroom. While enjoying the classic sport of fly-fishing at some of America’s premier lodges, participants reinforce their understanding of scouting fundamentals and enhance their ability to apply the lessons taught.

By juxtaposing fly-fishing and strategy capabilities, this camp provides a framework to enable participants to challenge assumptions and ways of thinking that will translate into better alignment of strategy with talent. The result:  fewer missed opportunities.

Croquet Camps

The camp will enable participants to go beyond the obvious – to visualize the complete and total player.  Grounded in key success factors from the player development systems of championship sports teams, participants practice scouting skills while playing croquet.

The one day camp starts with an introduction to basics of croquet.  As participants play a round of 6-wicket croquet, they size-up prospects – actors playing the role of a prospective candidate. At the conclusion of the match, team members share impressions and develop a consensus regarding the prospects. Team reports are posted and discussed. In addition to developing an understanding of basic scouting skills, team members learn how to fight and fuss – argue, defend and debate their best picks.  Ultimately, their decisions are laid against the organization’s competitive strategy for best fit.

Participants learn how to apply scouting skills in a natural setting, surface and debate leadership potential – coming to grips with the fact that scouting is not a perfect science.  It’s hard work that requires practice to produce smart picks and deliver on strategy.

Mini camps

Mini camps are generally half days build around the need to learn one or several of the scouting skills.  This is generally a good idea when preparing for a Base Camp. They can be done on site or at a sales/company conference.
