Strategic Capabilities Risk Index: What is it?

The Strategic Capabilities Risk Index (the Index) captures insights from front-line managers to provide targeted priorities regarding the talent needed to craft and carry out strategy in your organization.  Drawing upon the player development methods of championship sports teams, the Index solicits input regarding five key “Success Factor” areas that have been proven to identify the right talent, which translates directly into business success. 

The Index has been developed through many years of research, applying insights from cognitive science and quantitative analysis,  and has been employed to drive success at a number of top-ranked companies.  The Index takes advantage of what front-line managers and employees implicitly understand about discovering and nurturing talent, translating that understanding into an assessment of your organization’s “current state” with respect to the five key “Success Factors”.  This assessment then leads directly to action planning, and specific steps to improve performance immediately.

The Index is designed to predict the risk of having a business strategy fail, on the basis of one or more of the following scenarios:

  • An under-qualified person in a “game breaker” position
  • Top talent in a wrong or underutilized position – talent that has been unrecognized or misplaced
  • Loss of prospective top talent to a competitor – failure to utilize or understand the true potential of top talent results in potential defection
  • Loss of business resulting from failure to anticipate how “game breaker” roles are changing and what top talent is required to fill those positions

The index calculates a strategy-capabilities score for five key “Success Factor” areas. The score indicates the:

  • Strength of each factor
  • Talent discovery process gaps in your organization
  • Highlights the factors requiring attention
